Glam-Aholic Remix: Rihanna’s Double Split Maxi

Here’s my inspiration! I don’t know when, why and how this performance took place, but I knew I had to have a double split maxi skirt like this. I mean I had to have it lol! I’m not as daring as Rihanna though, I didn’t want to be too extreme and bare it all, so I toned it down a bit. I hit up a local designer to see if she could make my dream come true, and this is what we came up with…

We made it happen perfectly! Getting compliments from both men and women, I knew my mission was accomplished lol! Pairing it with an “Army” crop top from Forever 21 ($18.90), I wanted to tone the sexiness of my skirt down a notch by rocking it with a graphic tee. I’m not really a “sexy” person, so showing too much skin at one time just isn’t my style. My look has to balance out.

As we reported before, maxi dresses and skirts with high splits are showing up everywhere and on everyone. I told you before that you need to grab one! This will definitely not be the last time that I rock one.

Ask Bri: Emily B.’s Latest Looks

Boy, do I miss Love & Hip Hop NYC, not solely for the storyline but for the fashion! There is no reality show on air that could even compare. So instead of re-watching the entire season for a third time, I decided to stalk I mean follow (LOL), my favorite stylish reality star Emily B. on Instagram.  I can definitely appreciate Emily’s style; she knows how to show off her best assets, without looking tasteless or overtly sexy.  And you better believe that’s my motto since I’m plus size girl. I’m all about finding clothes that fit me to the “T”, that are stylish and that can also tuck, hide any imperfections.

Recently, the bombshell was spotted scrolling the streets of NYC in sick pair of Alexander McQueen Spine Lace Print Leggings ($254). Em definitely knows a thing or two about making your statement piece the center of attention.  She kept the rest of her look simple by pairing a sheer button-up blouse with black booties with an oversize bag.  Sometimes you don’t need a lot of  zazzle and dazzle, just let your style do all the talking with one eye catching item.

Who would have thought when I saw this Medallion Print Maxi in the window showcase at Arden B., that it would end up on Ms. B.?! And in the usual Emily B. form, she styled this $49 dress with high-end pieces to create perfection. Anyone can rock a bunch of labels, but a true fashionista knows the golden rule of mixing her highs & lows to make it work!

When I went searching for Emily’s printed tank dress, I had to have looked past it 100 times! The way the model wore it, I had no clue it was the same dress lol! She didn’t do it any justice; Emily’s killer curves gave the Torn By Ronny Kobo Tribal Print Tank Dress ($214), a voice. Those long tresses and oversize hoops definitely complimented her midi length dress.

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Wedge Sneakers

There’s nothing comfortable as your favorite pair of kicks and nothing as stylish as your favorite heels. Experience the best of both worlds this season with the Sneaker Wedge. No, I’m talking about the 90’s
Spice Girls version. This season’s sneaker wedge has been remixed by our favorite designers for fresh new style. I mean who wouldn’t want to trade in their 5 inch heels for a comfortable stylish pair of sneakers?! The amped up sneaker has been spotted all our fav fashionistas putting this trend at the forefront.

The hidden heel shoe adds a level of urban chic to the otherwise plain sneaker. I wouldn’t recommend running on the treadmill in these lol! But, they’re perfect for taking a stroll in the park, hitting the club or catching a sports game with your boo. The wedge sneaker is perfect for shorties like me, giving us the illusion of being taller without noticing the heel. It’s extremely versatile can be worn with in your closet. I’m talking about skinnies, skirts, sweats and dresses you name it!

Just be sure that they’re your standout piece so!  Heads will turn and compliments will be given, all in amazement of your sporty footwork. So get prepared to look street chic while elongating your legs and setting a trend in Hollywood’s favorite new footwear.

Glam-Aholic Remix: Adrienne Bailon’s Denim Look

Last week I had to attend my niece’s high school graduation and just could not figure out what I was gonna wear! It wasn’t too hot that day and it also took place at a park, so I wanted to be comfortable and not too dressy. I’d been DYING to wear this knee length brown “suede” (it’s not real suede of course lol) skirt that I’d picked up from Forever 21 months ago, but just could never figure out how I wanted to rock it. I remember seeing Adrienne Bailon in a similar skirt and I thought to myself “hey that’s a great way to wear my brown suede skirt!” lol! Without a doubt, I always keep my denim button-up shirt from H&M very close by, so that was a no-brainer!

Sorry for such bad lightening in these pics :( But anyway, of course I put my own twist to the look. It’s all about being inspired, not actually copying the look. I went for a wider belt from H&M to go around my waist, my brown wedges from Forever 21 that I’ve had for at least 5 years and I wanted to add a tad bit of color since everything was so neutral…so I rocked my little houndstooth crossbody bag from Target.

And my hair is always a part of my outfit! I was still wearing my 26″ Shop Madelyn Brazilian Body Wave (straightened), but this time I switched closures from my last installation. As soon as the closure became available from Shop Madelyn, I had to have one. It only made perfect sense to have all the same brand of hair in, just incase I wanted to wet it and ensure that I had the same curl pattern throughout my entire head.

FAQ about my closure:

  • Yes I did dye it.
  • It is sewn in, but you can glue it if you want. I suggest to get it sewn in if you sweat a lot.
  • I would not suggest it if you want to wear your hair in a high-bun. That will cause your braid/glue to be shown if it’s pulled completely back.
  • And yes I do love it!
For more info on the closure visit www.ShopMadelyn.com!

Ask Bri: What To Wear To A White Party?

Glam-Aholic Julia: “Hi, I need your help finding a white party outfit. I want something simple and cute that I can add my own flare to. Thank you!”

You would think finding all white look would be as easy as pie but, it’s not. So many factors come into play when finding something to wear for a white party, you have to stand out and you want your look to be one of a kind. Since I’m sure a lot of you Glam-Aholics are dealing with the same dilemma, Iet’s all take notes from Rihanna who’s been heating up the scene in her white hot looks.

While sitting in that Cabana sipping on martinis, you’ll want to rock an all white get-up that’ll have all eyes on you.  There’s nothing like a sexy side spilt dress or an adorable romper, uplifted with statement jewelry to do the trick. If you’re tanned to perfection just breezing through with your girls, then a crochet skirt with tube top paired with a body chain is affordable and comfortable.  If you’re a girl that loves simplicity, yet make a statement…a backless jumpsuit is your answer!  Stack on the bangles and don’t forget your fold over clutch when zipping up in any of these styles!

Remember when attending color themed parties, your footwork and accessories will make or break your look! RiRi made her button up dress pop when she mixed sexy and modest together, wearing a pair of red/black suspender tights and strappy pumps. Adding the right shoe, bag, necklace or earring to your look will guarantee perfection! You know I’m all about adding in a color shoe to turn your look up another level!

And I can’t forget about the accessories, all from PnkElephant that will be sure to take it up another notch!

I pick several dresses, rompers and jumpsuits from ASOS.com to help you rise to the occasion.

Confessions Of A Plus-Size Glam-Aholic: SBOC ’12 Looks!

We’re back from our mini-vacay! It was good to get away and Atlanta was a breath of fresh air. We really enjoyed ourselves and before it was all over, we were ready to get back to confessing our glam! For the first event, we started off with a bang! You know we had to let ATL know that the Glam-Aholics were in the building! LOL

I paired my Faux Leather Tube Top ($15.80) from Forever 21 plus with ASOS Pencil Skirt in Aztec Print ($29.83) and you all know that I had to bring Jeffrey along for the ride. I tied together my complete look with Jeffery Campbell’s Day 2 t-strap sandals.

Since I was too busy sightseeing to take more pictures of my looks, I knew I had to recreate my looks soon as I got  back home.  For our very last event, we all rocked our SGDH t-shirts; I slipped on my BB Dakota “The Sophie”  skirt in black ($43.95) from Karmaloop, with my Glam-Aholic Lifestyle tee and Oh! Kouture headpiece. I had been feening for a pair of jelly sandals and I came across this neon pair by Michael Kors, that I just couldn’t part with. Lately, I find myself pairing with them with everything in my wardrobe, I love them their super comfy and stylish!

ATL was a lot of fun and I can not wait to go back!

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Navajo Print

This season feed your inner native spirit with some colorful Navajo print. The Native-American inspired style is back, bolder and more striking than ever!  The colors, shapes and ethnic influences have been revamped for a fresh new feel. I‘ve always been a fan of the Southwest style. I never miss an opportunity to throw on my Navajo poncho while styling my hair into two Pocahontas braids. The Santa Fe print is every store display window recently, it’s so easy to style and looks great on all body shapes.

For a stylish Southwestern vibe, rock your print with colors that are a part of the pattern. You can also always pair your print with classics pieces. Rihanna and Kim kept their Navajo prints simple, both wearing printed maxis with black sandals. While Solange opted to go for a more electric look with her shorts, adding a striped shirt to the mix and tan wedges. Wearing a Navajo scarf is a quick styling tip to give your casual ensemble a boost.

Throwing a little Navajo print into your wardrobe will definitely get you fly for the Summer. It’s one part eclectic and one part chic! These printed skirts, dresses, tops and leggings will help you saddle up your wardrobe without breaking the budget.

Confess your Glam! Will you be giving Navajo print a shot in your wardrobe?!
