This has been heavy on my heart to share lately. Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful things that I have ever experienced in life. While I have experienced it twice, this time around was a lot more difficult than the first. I’m sure it’s the age difference. At 17, I was still somewhat of a child. It was easy to bounce back and feel like myself again. The weight fell off with ease and of course I didn’t have as many adult responsibilities as I do now. After my most recent nine long months, all of my focus went to my new bundle of joy. And when I say all…I mean ALL. I lost myself, completely. But with no regrets. I enjoyed every single second of it, but in the back of my mind…I missed the old Mia. I did not suffer from postpartum depression (Thank God), but I experienced a life change. Long were the days that I sat in the mirror and experimented with a new hairstyle. The extra weight gain made me cringe each time I walked inside of my closet. Why even bother to wear makeup when I probably won’t go outside for the next three days. It is just now 18 months later, that I’m finally bouncing back to the girl that I once knew.
Although I felt that I was a bit lost in the baby sauce, there were a few things in the early stages of motherhood that I would do to make myself feel a bit better about my style, hair and beauty situation. At the end of the day, I was a mom…but I was still Mia Ray the Glam-Aholic lol! I found a formula that gave me a “pick me up” each time I got dressed to walk out of the door and it worked tremendously! The formula was a white shirt, preferably a button-down that was easy access for breastfeeding and the one pair of jeans that I could fit LOL. I had the jeans custom distressed to add a bit more style to my formula. I recycled this look for the first six months of motherhood and no one noticed (well, if they did they didn’t say anything lol).
The first six months of motherhood were filled with doctor’s appointments for both mommy and baby. I found it easiest to toss on a hat when my hair didn’t want to cooperate with my tight schedule of rushing out of the house so that we wouldn’t be late. Having my hands full with carseat and diaper bag, I could count on using a backpack instead of a handbag for my necessities. My beauty routine consisted of a great facial and lip moisturizer, with a few strokes of mascara to bring my face to life. I used my outerwear and shoes to make the statement. So what’s the most important factor to the formula? It’s all in how you accessorize!
What’s so great about the formula is that you get to be both creative and comfortable. Remixing your favorite and most convenient accessories allows you to be comfy in your outfit, so that you can concentrate on the baby and your daily tasks. You won’t be distracted by the feeling of wondering if you look ok or if your jeans are fitting right. Also perfect for your transitioning time during losing the baby weight. You can use your formula and add pieces to help camouflage any unwanted weight.
What ensures that your formula is executed effortlessly is how you add your favorite “pre-baby” items. Getting a fresh mani & pedi featuring your favorite polish, goes a long way. Ditching the diaper bag and using your favorite tote bag (preferably a Glam Tote lol) adds a touch flair that will remind you to keep your style afloat. Let your favorite pair of shades hide the fact that you didn’t get much sleep last night. Enjoy a simple pair of gold hoops before the baby is able to use them as a toy. Just remember who YOU are and use that to adorn your formula!
There are so many other aspects of mommy fashion, but this is definitely first in line. You have to stay ahead in the race of keeping yourself together in the wonderful world of mommy hood. Don’t feel defeated, you can do it and do it well!

Things just were much harder the 2nd time around especially having a 4 yr old to deal with too! “Uniforms” are great.
