Every girl loves a good handbag! As we all know, they come in a great assortment for us to choose from. Well lately the only cravings I’ve been having are for crossbody bags! Of course this is not anything new, but as of lately we’ve seen these everywhere from street stylelistas to the red carpet. For me, I carry this bag as a sense of comfort. I live in Detroit (not one of the safest cities #yikes) and I love to have my belongings very close to me while out & about without compromising my style. I also like the small compact feel of carrying a crossbody. Do you ever feel like the bigger the bag, the more JUNK you throw in it?! I’m talking a boat load of receipts, sunglasses, make-up and I’ve even pulled out a pair of scissors before! Who has time for that shoulder pain?! With carrying around this extra 10 pounds of body weight…I don’t need any extras lol

Fashion vs. Style, what’s the difference between the two? Do you feel that people get these meanings confused? Fashion is created, style is something that one naturally posseses. I do believe that many confuse Fashion with style and I understand how it can be confusing. You see these amazing looks on the runway and celebrities and you think, ” I want to wear that! And obviously if I wear what is “hot” I have style” but that is not the case. It is important to pull inspiration from your favorite looks and make them your own. Otherwise everyone looks the same and that is so boring and definitley not fabulous.

What are some of your favorite trends that are happening right now? I am loving the monochromatic trend, Leather, Peplum, Neon, Oxblood, and anything with clean lines!

Have your ever committed a fashion crime? Do tell the details! LOL oh my, I don’t know if I would catergorize them as “Fashion Crimes” but I do have a few “What was I thinking?” moments as my style continues to evolve! I remember wearing this caged wire top. It was just so overly trendy and I cringe everytime I see the pics lol.

What are your 3 favorite hot spots to hit and find great pieces? My top 3 favorite places to shop are Asos, Zara, and Forever 21. I can always count on these stores to have something have something that fits my style and my budget.

What are 3 things that every Glam-Aholic should have in her closet? A fierce pair of classic heels, A dress that compliments your figure and makes you feel like a powerhouse, and a tailored pair of skinny trousers. (leather, funky patterns, etc. Have fun with your basics!)

If you could trade closets with any celeb, who would it be? Hmm, that’s a good one! It would have to be a toss up between Kim Kardashian and Angela Simmons. I absolutely love Kim’s glamorous/luxurious style and I love the way Angela incorporates high end and low end items into her wardrobe. She has that laid back glam look which is what I tend to go for.

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Oxblood

It’s time to get ready for Fashion Night Out! It’s fashion’s most iconic extravaganza to kick off New York City’s Fashion Week. The premier event happens on September 6, 2012! And, what better stylish way to get us ready for FNO than previewing the hot trends for Fall. So, let’s start the season off right with it’s top notch color, Oxblood!

The rich regal Oxblood a.k.a Burgundy, has dominated the runways and saturated Fall fashion issues, proclaiming it as the must have color of the season.  And, the takeover doesn’t stop there, the luxe hue shows up on every fashion piece imaginable. The dramatic, edgy yet sophisticated color comes in a variety of reds making it universally flattering color. The bleeding oxblood is interchangeable with your black pieces and blends well with other colored pieces in your wardrobe also. No wonder why it’s being called “The New Black”, the dark shade appeals to the masses!

Our favorite “it” girls have been seen adding an unexpected element of drama to their looks, layering the rich regal color from head to toe for a monochromatic look. (Which is also big trend for Fall!) Switch out your LBD for a burgundy option for an upgrade. You can also pair oxblood with brights, like orange, teal and blue as a great way to transition your Summer wardrobe into Fall. Mixing in a few elements like leather, velvet and wool with the dark shade will offset with your neutrals. Kristin Cavallari’s oxblood shawl is the perfect piece to throw on for those causal days when you’re on the go. If you have to ease yourself into the richness of this shade, you can add this trend in smaller doses with accessories like handbags, belts, shoes and even your hair!

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Exposed Zippers

Zip it up, zip it down or unzip it open, there’s no wrong way to zip! The over exposed zipper detail is one of this season’s hottest commodities. We’ve taken notice of this embellishment popping up in some pretty unexpected places. Clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry and everything in between; the effective fasteners have been spotted running through. No longer something you conceal behind fabric, they are now a fashion center piece.

When Givenchy’s front zipper dress moved gracefully down the runaway it was all she wrote. The leather dress with front zipper detailing added a tough edge to an otherwise sophisticated ensemble and I’ve been lusting over this trend ever since!  Instead of it being of the norm, it was something very alluring about the exposed zipper. Designers choose to use the accents because they’re dimensional and make an otherwise simple design pop.  I would make the exposed zippers the focal point of my outfit. Or I could add a zip clutch or boot to my relaxed look and watch it transcend. But, I wouldn’t go overboard because I‘ll look like I’m wearing a strait jacket LOL!  If you’re not head over heels for zippers, you can incorporate the fad into your wardrobe with a subtle pair of pants like Cassie. The fasteners aren’t only for edgy motorcycle style; zips have a lot of curb appeal. Especially, a center back zipper dress which is polished enough for a business meeting and fun enough for drinks after.

Although, zippers aren’t much of a new trend, just being revamped (like all trends), for a more chic and feminine feel. We’ve just taken notice of how the trend has comeback with a vengeance and ready to transform any simple piece.  So, the next time you’re looking for a LBD to wear to a black tie affair, opt for one with a zipper and you won’t go unnoticed.

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Tomboy Chic

So being a tomboy is trending now? Thank goodness I’ve remained true to myself and never changed, so this trend comes natural to me lol! I’ve said it once…I’ll say it again, I’m a true tomboy at heart. I love rocking sneakers and jeans, but in a split second I can change into full Glam-Aholic mode and rock 5 inch platforms pumps. Recently, we’ve seen girls everywhere wearing their sneakers with everything from skirts to jumpsuits….and I love it! I wore my pair of Jordan 11′s this past weekend with a white button up, bubble vest and a pair of leather patch leggings that I got from H&M 2 years ago…

I’ve also posted before about rockin’ my Jordan 3′s with a pair of tribal leggings and a blazer…

On a day of errands and running around the city handling Glam-Aholic business, I incorporated my ‘Same Girl…Different Hair’ sweatshirt with my exclusive pink Jordan 1′s…

Another “tomboy” trend you may see going on now, is a oldie but goodie! I’ve had a fresh pair of wheat Timberlands each year for as far back as I can remember. No longer just for the boys to rock, we are now also taking over this look and I’ve even seen a few ladies rock theirs with dresses! Not just for facing a couple inches of snow, wheat Timberlands are now about showcasing your style to see in what stylish way can you pull them off!

I threw on my Timbs with a pair of acid washed jeans and an off the shoulder Flashdance sweatshirt that my BFF picked up for me from Forever 21…

We all know that fashion repeats! This trend is nothing new to me as I’m sure it’s not to many of you. We can go back to TLC and Aaliyah being the queens of making dressing like a tomboy SEXY! And now it’s back. Girls everywhere are trading a day off of wearing 5 inch Christian Louboutins in for a pair of Jordans and Timberland boots. Let’s keep in mind….There’s nothing more stylish than being comfortable!

There’s nothing like a pop of color to brighten your days! This season it’s all about adding the perfect pair of colorful heels to kick up your style routine.  Although it’s not Spring yet, you can still amp up your Winter with a bright pair of heels. Fashionista’s everywhere have been raving about the candy coated footwear trend! Even our favorite celebs have been spotted in the eye-catching brightly hued heels.  Remember when we featured Angela’s bold bright neon footwork from NYFW 2011? She definitely murdered these looks…

If you’re ready to add some extra flavor to your Winter wardrobe, then this trend is for you!  Bright pumps are the perfect statement piece to spice up a LBD. Who could forget the image of Beyonce stepping out in a pair of Aqua Louboutins?! She definitely let the shoes do the talking with this look…

The key to this statement look is to pair the heels with black, neutrals or color-block then add the bright lights to your feet! Fergie is definitely a fan, she mixes her bright heels with everything!

 Kicking into a fabulous pair can speak volumes about your personality. A pair of distressed jeans and a fitted tee or button-up, can go from causal weekend to club ready with the help of fierce colored heels.  You can even match your lipstick with your bright footwork! Next time you’re out shopping don’t forget to pick up a pair of bright heels, to seal the deal on your look!

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Printed Leggings

Leggings lover? Well, our beloved basic leggings have been revamped into prints and patterns bringing us a whole new range of endless options. Bold abstract, subtle florals and bright tribals…no print is off limits when it comes to leggings this season. A sure way to rock this look is to keep everything simple and let your leggings be your statement piece. Nicki Minaj shows us the right AND the wrong way of rockin’ this trend. You don’t wanna have an overload of prints. Yes, mixing prints are in right now, but it’s best to stick with ONE trend at a time!

 Remember graphic prints will draw attention to your bottom-half, so if you have wide hips like me, try to stay conscience of the patterns you choose. No one is forcing you to rock a particular print lol! It’s all about what you are comfortable in. Leggings are a comfy statement piece, no longer just worn around the house or in the gym. So make sure when you step out in yours, it’s very tastefully done!

I went for a more versatile look this weekend and rocked my Forever 21 tribal leggings with a black blazer and a pair of retro Jordan 3′s. I’d seen Tracee Ellis Ross MURDER this look and I had to add my own twist to it. Something so simple and inexpensive can have epic results!

Go all out for this trend! Rock your leggings with bright colors, killer heels, big hair and loads of jewels for a style that only could be describe as….SICK!

The favorite old-skool boy-meets-girl shoe is back and better than even! These comfy and stylish loafer slippers have been revamped for the new-age fashionista. This season the slipper loafer replaces our beloved casual shoe…the ballet flat. Instead, trade in your ballerina flats for the new weekend, after work, casual sleek slipper! Mia Ray was caught out running errands in her leopard Steve Madden loafers…

Go for a menswear inspired look pairing your loafers with a boyfriend blazer and a knee length pants, like the chic Olivia Palermo. Angela Simmons looked fly rocking her loafers with a flirty dress while out & about. Or see how Lala & Rihanna shows the versatility. Slippers come in an array of styles and patterns, giving you ability to dress it up or down..

Glam-Aholic Style Files: New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week 2011 was M A J O R! Aside from the great shows, I believe that these ladies made more noise than the actual models on the runway! Nicki sitting front row with thee Anna Wintour, Beyonce’ glowing with her new baby bump, Angela Simmons and Solange’ switched up their looks every chance they could…we could hardly keep up! And Auntie June Ambrose served us just the way we like it :)

Angela’s bold bright neon style was definitely a big hit at NYFW! Her pop of color footwork paired with a basic fit made her simple look jump outside of the box. The young mogul even got a chance to vamp it up wearing a dark burgundy lip, trench and oversized sunnies. We couldn’t keep up with her, she gave us a different look with each wardrobe change. The definition of style!

Nicki Minaj made her rounds @ NYFW in her “over the top” statement looks. It’s Fashion Week and Nicki went all out! Her quirky style must be making a lot of noise to the right ears, she seems to have won over the approval of Anna Wintour! Not many can say that lol!

My love Solange, got her shine on! Her fearless style graced front rows and declared her a fashion icon! The songtress/songwriter rocked everything from tribal patterns, a plum maxi skirt, multi-prints and eclectic jewelry. Ms. Knowles even sported our favorite accessory…a naturally curled afro weave/wig, the perfect way to top off any ensemble!

Seeing Auntie June’s hot pink tailored pant suit and orange fedora was enough, she didn’t have to go any further! But of course she did. Showing us how to properly rock the menswear trend with the perfect recipe of a top hat, black tuxedo jacket, sequins skinnys and satin bow-tie. As we all know she can’t complete a look without her signature Ruby Woo!

 Pregnant women take notes, you can still be stylish with a growing belly! With her chubby cheeks and growing boobs, Beyonce looked radiant in her gold sequin wrap dress and Louboutin peep toe pumps. A Michael Kors cut-out gown that fell perfectly to mask what everyone is dying to get a picture of!  Momma Bey proves she is still the hottest chick in the game, no longer rocking his chain…but now his baby bump!

Glam-Aholic Retail Therapy: Alexander Wang Inspired

As I went “window shopping” this weekend at one of my favorite stores Forever 21, I came across a piece that looked so familiar. I know I’d seen this sweater on someone before, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it…all I knew is that I had to have it! So you all can guess that it no longer became “window shopping” and I actually made a purchase lol!

When I finally made it home and tried the sweater on it clicked! I’d remember seeing Angela Simmons and Rihanna both in a similar piece, except it was a dress! An Alexander Wang cutout dress with leather shoulder patches to be exact! I wanted that dress soooo bad when I first laid eyes on it, but once I saw the price tag…I immediately changed my mind and went on about my day lol! So you guys know I was so stoked to find a piece inspired from the Alexander Wang dress, and for so much cheaper :)

Rihanna dressed her look up with pumps, while Angela did the opposite in high top Python Giuseppe sneakers!
