Glam-Aholic Of The Week: Crystal Chanel

Fashion vs. Style, what’s the difference between the two? Do you feel that people get these meanings confused? The difference between the two is that you can go to a store to buy what’s hot or popping and consider yourself fashionable. But to have style one creates a look with personal expression and tells a story through their clothes.  I am a strong believer that expensive name brands do not make an outfit fashionable alone. It’s  how the clothes are put together to show style and even make something cheap look like a million bucks!

 What are some of your favorite trends that are happening right now? The trends that I’m in love with currently include peplum tops or dresses because it compliments my tummy area well, faux leather detail on anything;  jackets, leggings or a t-shirt. Also I am a sucker for  anything with spikes!

 Have you ever committed a fashion crime? Do tell the details! I really can’t think of anything because I dress outside of the box and I know my style of clothing is not everyone’s cup of tea. But I did once wear an all lime green pants suit to an awards ceremony! Lol, that wasn’t hot.

 What are your 3 favorite hot spots to hit and find great pieces? Shopping can be difficult for fashionable plus size clothes.  The top 3 places I shop include Forever 21 (regular & plus sizes), Asos (main range & plus size, and online boutiques I find on Instagram like Luxe Vain Boutique or Everything Curvy and Chic Boutique.

 What are 3 things that every Glam-Aholic should have in her closet? Oh my, this is a hard one!   Because I believe every lady should look well put together when she walks out the door, I believe every Glam-Aholic should have shape-wear,  a great fitting blazer and a nice watch.

 If you could trade closets with any celeb, who would it be? I really love Emily B’s closet. She dresses with high end labels and keeps it real with low but fabulous finds!  Her shoe collection is to kill for and she dresses her curves quite well.

 What tips can you give our Confessions Of A Glam-Aholic readers on how to achieve stylish looks? The best advice I can give to any fashionista is: Try everything on!  Being a plus size woman I would get intimidated by size tags and the way clothes looked on hangers or folded on tables. Some of my best pieces in my closet that compliment my frame are not “my size”.  So I encourage a Glam-Aholic to try it before you toss it.

Glam-Aholic Retail Therapy: Forever 21 +

Forever 21+ has been on fire lately. Well….in my opinion, anyway. Last weekend my best friend and I hit Forever 21 to find a cute shirt for her to wear that evening. I stumbled across a really cute gold chain scarf print blouse and I MADE her buy it. Yup, I kinda forced her into it lol! And yes, if it’s something that I’m dying to have…I will purchase a size XL in Forever 21 +.

As I watched the last episode of Jim & Chrissy…wait…Mr. Jones & Chrissy? Well…what ever the name of it is…I noticed that our favorite girl Emily B. had on the exact same top! So I had to rewind my DVR and snap a picture to share this retail therapy with you guys!

Bri hit my phone screaming about this leather & mesh skirt J Lo was seen rocking a few days ago. She was upset because she’d passed this skirt up and left it on the rack, while in Forever 21 over the weekend. I think it is VERY similar to the one “Jenny from the block” is rocking and would be a perfect piece to add to your wardrobe. Great for nights out or paired with a varsity jacket for date night…

Ask Bri: Emily B.’s Latest Looks

Boy, do I miss Love & Hip Hop NYC, not solely for the storyline but for the fashion! There is no reality show on air that could even compare. So instead of re-watching the entire season for a third time, I decided to stalk I mean follow (LOL), my favorite stylish reality star Emily B. on Instagram.  I can definitely appreciate Emily’s style; she knows how to show off her best assets, without looking tasteless or overtly sexy.  And you better believe that’s my motto since I’m plus size girl. I’m all about finding clothes that fit me to the “T”, that are stylish and that can also tuck, hide any imperfections.

Recently, the bombshell was spotted scrolling the streets of NYC in sick pair of Alexander McQueen Spine Lace Print Leggings ($254). Em definitely knows a thing or two about making your statement piece the center of attention.  She kept the rest of her look simple by pairing a sheer button-up blouse with black booties with an oversize bag.  Sometimes you don’t need a lot of  zazzle and dazzle, just let your style do all the talking with one eye catching item.

Who would have thought when I saw this Medallion Print Maxi in the window showcase at Arden B., that it would end up on Ms. B.?! And in the usual Emily B. form, she styled this $49 dress with high-end pieces to create perfection. Anyone can rock a bunch of labels, but a true fashionista knows the golden rule of mixing her highs & lows to make it work!

When I went searching for Emily’s printed tank dress, I had to have looked past it 100 times! The way the model wore it, I had no clue it was the same dress lol! She didn’t do it any justice; Emily’s killer curves gave the Torn By Ronny Kobo Tribal Print Tank Dress ($214), a voice. Those long tresses and oversize hoops definitely complimented her midi length dress.

What does FASHION mean to you? To me I would have to say FASHION is a work of ART or a self expression.. Showing the world your many delights..you know something like Picasso ..Fashion is PERFECTION!!!!

What are some of your favorite trends that are happening right now? My favorite trends right now would have to be Neon, colorblocking, spikes, bold prints and vintage..


What are your 3 favorite hot spots to hit and find haute pieces? Thats a tough one I’m like the online shopping guru..I would say NastyGal, ShopAkira, and Solestruck

What trends do you love that mostly describe and inspire your style? I’m not too big on trends, I put together different outfits in my head of what I think would be stylish to me, and surf the net until I find it…

What are 3 things in your closet that you can NOT live without? If I had to choose only 3 things in my closet I would have to say my Michael Kors watch, all of my Ray Ban’s, and my fringe Moccasins..those 3 can go with any outfit…


Who do you look up to in the fashion industry? And who are your top 3 most fashionable celebs? I would more so say I admire than look up too the oldies but goodies in women like Jackie O, Tracey Ellis Ross, Grace Kelly, Dorothy Dandridge, Pam Grier, and Janelle Monae.. My 3 most fashionable celebs would be June Ambrose, Kim Kardashian, and Emily B..

OOTD: Farrah Fawcett & High-Waist Jeans

Last weekend I had the pleasure of co-hosting a local event and opposed to my usual uniform, I wanted to switch my style up a little. I went for a more casual look, geared by the shirt tied around the waist trend. That jean button-up has been hanging around in my closet for years and as I rushed to get dressed (I mean seriously as I was running out of the door), I grabbed it and tied it around my waist. As I walked by my mirror, I was surprised and happy that it all made sense lol!  I’ve stated before that I’m obsessed with this infamous photo of Farrah Fawcett, so I almost had a fit when I saw it hanging up in Urban Outfitters…I had to have it! Just as with the previous Notorious B.I.G shirt that I snagged from there, it was from the men’s department. Which is fine, I just got a size small and made it werk.

I wanted to play with the colors in the t-shirt, not going directly for the main colors in the tee…but the same color family. I had been dying to wear these high-waist jeans that I’d picked up from Swank Boutique. They are the EXACT same fit as the American Apparel “Easy” jeans that we’d featured in the Emily B. post from our event at Swank! American Apparel only offers black, light blue and dark blue. The great thing about these are that they’re great pieces for sorbet color blocking or just adding a few shades to your wardrobe for Summer!  They even offer them in two other colors (yes I snuck and took pictures to show you guys lol!)…

Glam-Aholic Nicole: “I need these dresses!! Please let me know where I can find them!”


VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop may be off-air for now, but that doesn’t stop us Glam-Aholics from following Emily B’s sophisticated chic style. Emily showed off her curvalicious body via Instagram in a Herve Leger Scarlett bandage dress ($1150). When searching for the perfect party dress, always look for garment that’ll define your silhouette, compliment your curves and hide imperfections.


The glamorous wardrobe stylist kept the looks coming, spotted making it snapback in Rachel Roy’s Mirror Image Sheath Dress ($170). I love how a simple cocktail dress can ooze sex appeal with the help of bangin’ curves and a great pair of spanxs!


Last but not least, Ms. B showed off her tomboy chic style in a pair of American Apparel Cotton Spandex Jersey Slit Legging ($32). Slipping on fresh pair of Reebok sneakers (that are making a comeback!) and graphic t-shirt is the perfect way to tone down a sexy pair of leggings.

Posh Glam Soiree’ Shopping Event With Emily B.

The video pretty much tells it all! We had a great turn-out at Swank Boutique’s Posh Glam Soiree’! My Glam-Aholics showed up and showed OUT! We ate cupcakes, got our drink on and most importantly…we shopped lol! It was an absolute pleasure to host this event along side one of your favorite stylist, Emily B. She was an absolute sweetheart. Here’s what she rocked to the event…

Em looked great as always, from head to toe. Doing what she does best, by mixing her highs and lows. She shows us how to balance this out perfectly with an affordable outfit, paired with a shoe that comes with a heavy price tag lol! Emily’s Polka dot top is by Lipsy ($62.67), her high-waist black pants were American Apparel Easy Jeans ($72) and her black Christian Louboutin Dafsling ($1,075).

Just like every other girl that I’ve seen rocking this tribal print yellow dress from Asos ($50.13), I had to have it! Emily informed me that she has the dress and the jumpsuit (as do I) in this print and was afraid to wear it, figuring that someone at the event would have it on lol! I absolutely love the fit of the dress, it fits like a glove and I can not wait to wear my jumpsuit!  To avoid jiggle and the appearance of my panty line, I made sure to strap up with my shape wear. The more women I see not wearing one…makes me fall even more in love with mine. Ladies…shape wear is a MUST!

I went shoe-shopping and could not find any to wear with this dress. So I dug down deep in my closet and pulled out these oldie but goodies! I bought these from Bakers about 3 or 4 years ago and I’ve probably only worn them twice. I always receive compliments on them any time I wear them. I’m thinking about bringing them out of retirement more often lol!

Stuff Carter and I went for a very simple manicure this week. I knew that I would have a lot going on with such a busy dress, that I wanted to tone everything else down. Since Beyonce’ inspired this manicure with her new found love for blue polish, I would like to call this the “Beyonce’ Blue” manicure!

In conclusion this event was EVERYTHING! I always love to mix and mingle with my Glam-Aholics. You all know how much Arjaunjubri and I love Emily B., so it was such a joy to be able to talk fashion with her. Confess Your Glam: A Swank Boutique

I follow one of the hottest boutiques in Detroit on Twitter (@ItzSwank), and one day while scrolling down my timeline I saw a pair of leggings that I HAD to have. You all know my love for leggings, but these sent me over the top because they were color block leggings! That’s like a 2 for 1 special lol!

So I frantically tweeted the boutique crossing my fingers, hoping that they weren’t sold out. Thank goodness they had a size large waiting for me. I knew I was having a “girls nite out” and needed something to wear. I’d already put my outfit together in my head, with these leggings included…

And this was the outcome! I decided to tone the leggings down with darker colors to avoid looking like a box of crayons lol! I paired them with a black button-up that I’d purchased from H&M years ago on the $5 sale rack. I fastened the three middle buttons and tied the shirt up to create a different look. I wore my favorite Steve Madden olive green boots, that are so comfortable that I always try to find a way to wear them when I go out so that my feet won’t be in pain by the end of the nite lol! I wanted to create a complete color story, which is why I decided not to wear black shoes. That would’ve just been too boring…for me :)
