Fashion vs. Style, what’s the difference between the two? Do you feel that people get these meanings confused? Fashion is created, style is something that one naturally posseses. I do believe that many confuse Fashion with style and I understand how it can be confusing. You see these amazing looks on the runway and celebrities and you think, ” I want to wear that! And obviously if I wear what is “hot” I have style” but that is not the case. It is important to pull inspiration from your favorite looks and make them your own. Otherwise everyone looks the same and that is so boring and definitley not fabulous.

What are some of your favorite trends that are happening right now? I am loving the monochromatic trend, Leather, Peplum, Neon, Oxblood, and anything with clean lines!

Have your ever committed a fashion crime? Do tell the details! LOL oh my, I don’t know if I would catergorize them as “Fashion Crimes” but I do have a few “What was I thinking?” moments as my style continues to evolve! I remember wearing this caged wire top. It was just so overly trendy and I cringe everytime I see the pics lol.

What are your 3 favorite hot spots to hit and find great pieces? My top 3 favorite places to shop are Asos, Zara, and Forever 21. I can always count on these stores to have something have something that fits my style and my budget.

2

What are 3 things that every Glam-Aholic should have in her closet? A fierce pair of classic heels, A dress that compliments your figure and makes you feel like a powerhouse, and a tailored pair of skinny trousers. (leather, funky patterns, etc. Have fun with your basics!)

If you could trade closets with any celeb, who would it be? Hmm, that’s a good one! It would have to be a toss up between Kim Kardashian and Angela Simmons. I absolutely love Kim’s glamorous/luxurious style and I love the way Angela incorporates high end and low end items into her wardrobe. She has that laid back glam look which is what I tend to go for.

Fashion vs. Style, what’s the difference between the two? Do you feel that people get these meanings confused? The difference between the two is that you can go to a store to buy what’s hot or popping and consider yourself fashionable. But to have style one creates a look with personal expression and tells a story through their clothes.  I am a strong believer that expensive name brands do not make an outfit fashionable alone. It’s  how the clothes are put together to show style and even make something cheap look like a million bucks!

cc3

What are some of your favorite trends that are happening right now? The trends that I’m in love with currently include peplum tops or dresses because it compliments my tummy area well, faux leather detail on anything;  jackets, leggings or a t-shirt. Also I am a sucker for  anything with spikes!

Have you ever committed a fashion crime? Do tell the details! I really can’t think of anything because I dress outside of the box and I know my style of clothing is not everyone’s cup of tea. But I did once wear an all lime green pants suit to an awards ceremony! Lol, that wasn’t hot.

 cc7

What are your 3 favorite hot spots to hit and find great pieces? Shopping can be difficult for fashionable plus size clothes.  The top 3 places I shop include Forever 21 (regular & plus sizes), Asos (main range & plus size, and online boutiques I find on Instagram like Luxe Vain Boutique or Everything Curvy and Chic Boutique.

What are 3 things that every Glam-Aholic should have in her closet? Oh my, this is a hard one!   Because I believe every lady should look well put together when she walks out the door, I believe every Glam-Aholic should have shape-wear,  a great fitting blazer and a nice watch.

cc8

If you could trade closets with any celeb, who would it be? I really love Emily B’s closet. She dresses with high end labels and keeps it real with low but fabulous finds!  Her shoe collection is to kill for and she dresses her curves quite well.

What tips can you give our Confessions Of A Glam-Aholic readers on how to achieve stylish looks? The best advice I can give to any fashionista is: Try everything on!  Being a plus size woman I would get intimidated by size tags and the way clothes looked on hangers or folded on tables. Some of my best pieces in my closet that compliment my frame are not “my size”.  So I encourage a Glam-Aholic to try it before you toss it.

What does FASHION mean to you? Fashion defines self expression. I feel that It is an extension of who we are.

What are some of your favorite trends that are happening right now? Peplum skirts, dresses and tops! I love the girliness of them. Lace I’m a lover of lace a lace top can transform your outfit and provides texture even if wearing monotone. Ankle strap heels, I love the daintiness of them they are simple elongating and can add femininity to an outfit.

What are your 3 favorite hot spots to hit and find great pieces? Angel’s vintage boutique in Miami, I love love love that place! I don’t go as often as I would love to!  I pretty much shop everywhere, Zara is a perfect go to place to find staples and trendy pieces but I’m a fan of vintage without looking vintage… Fashion evolves and its always awesome to get a vintage piece that is unique but still current.

What trends do you love that mostly describe and inspire your style? Anything high waisted or that cinches at the waist, I’m a fan of the hourglass look and nothing achieves that better.

What are 3 things in your closet that you can NOT live without? White tees, I love anything white! I need good undergarments that compliment my clothes and support me, as women we forget about what is underneath the clothes. A good statement piece.

Who do you look up to in the fashion industry? And who are your top 3 most fashionable celebs? I don’t really know… I love Shala Monroque’s sense of style and femininity,  Miroslava Duma for her daringness and glam, Julia Sarr-Jamois and Solange for the mixing of textures, colours and prints Anna Dello Russo has the perfect accessories! What tips can you give our Confessions Of A Glam-Aholic readers on how to achieve stylish looks? I think confidence Is the best accessory to have, there is no point in spending money on your clothes if you aren’t confident in them. There are so many trends so if one doesn’t flatter you try another one. I also believe in investing in undergarments it is very distracting to see a pantie or bra line under a beautiful and otherwise well fitting ensemble. Don’t be afraid to have fun! we all have fashion FAILS but that’s how we learn!

Glam-Aholic Of The Week: Sandy

What does FASHION mean to you? Fashion is a way for me to express myself, it’s an expression that I  created it’s like creating your own painting w/ your clothes accessories shoes and bags being your paint brushes! Glam-Aholic Of The Week: Tawana

Arjaunjubri: What does Fashion mean to you? Rachel Zoe said it best “Fashion is a way of saying who you are, without having to speak.”  I believe that fashion gives every individual a way to express themselves. Fashion isn’t just about the clothes you wear. It’s also the way you style your hair, the color or shape of your nails, etc…every day you wake up in the morning, look in your closet and get dressed. Subconsciously, you’re deciding how you’re going to let the world know your feeling that day. To sum it up in one word, fashion is an EXPRESSION!

Arjaunjubri: What are some of your favorite trends that are happening right now? I’d have to say color blocking, bold prints, and Neon colors!

Arjaunjubri: What are your 4 favorite hot spots to hit and find haute pieces? For tops I love to shop at trendy boutiques! There, I tend to find great tops that are set apart from the one’s I’d find in department stores. My 4 favorite haute spots are, LF (www.LFstores.com), BCBG, (www.BCBG.com), Bloomingdales, and Forever 21.

Arjaunjubri: What trends do you love that mostly describe and inspire your style? The trend I love most that describes my style are bright neon colors and bold prints. My favorite color to wear it yellow! I know some people swear by black but incorporating color into my wardrobe brightens me up on the inside! Bold prints also describe and inspire my style. Most prints in my opinion are “statement pieces”. They inspire me be to be different and give me a sort of confidence. Knowing I’m standing out from the average all black ensemble standing next to me.

Arjaunjubri: What are 3 things in your closet that you can NOT live without? 1) I most certainly cannot live without my high heels! For a girl who’s only 5’1, I swear by them! I’m always looking for a reason to get dressed up. I definitely have to say my high heels are my most prized possession in my closet. 2) I can’t live without my collection of jackets! Yes, jackets! I believe throwing on a cute blazer, leather jacket, or faux fur will set off almost any outfit! 3) Long dresses give me life! There’s nothing like throwing on a long summer dress for a day of shopping. How many times have you been in your favorite store, wanted to try on an outfit but dreaded the thought of taking of your four-layer ensemble. I myself have worked up quite a sweat in a dressing room or two lol.  A long summer dress is what I throw on for a day of comfort and I cannot live without them!

Arjaunjubri: Who do you look up to in the fashion industry? And who are your top 3 most fashionable celebs? June Ambrose, Tom Ford, Rachel Zoe, and Nina Garcia are my fashion industry icons. My top 3 fashionable celebs without a doubt are #1 Jennifer Lopez, #2 Sarah Jessica Parker  #3 Kim Kardashian.

Arjaunjubri: What tips can you give our Confessions Of A Glam-Aholic readers on how to achieve stylish looks? To achieve a stylish look always make sure you wear clothing that flatters your frame. Sometimes trends become so popular that we often want to wear things that simply don’t work for us. Always strive to achieve the “complete look”. Incorporating your make up, accessories, nail polish etc into your look. We can often throw together an amazing outfit but simple thing like the color of your lipstick or the wrong accessory can be so off that it takes away from your overall look.

Glam-Aholic Of The Week: Shon

What does FASHION mean to you? Fashion means everything to me. I think that I get more excited about fashion than anything else, primarily because it’s a reflection of creativity like no other. I wonder sometimes where do designers get their ideas from, I have a great amount of admiration and respect for great work.

What are some of your favorite trends that are happening right now? Leading in my trend favorites right now would be color blocking. When I first saw color blocking, maybe two years ago on Rihanna, I thought it was really cool, and then for Summer 2010 it went mainstream. I’ve done it and it takes a lot of work because the hues have to be just right or they will clash. I’m also a big fan of metallics, and surprisingly, the combination of leopard print and red! I wasn’t a fan of the print and now I love it.

What are your 3 favorite hot spots to hit and find haute pieces? My hot spots change as my taste changes, and right now BCBG has been doing it for me. For the past year I’ve bought great skirts, dresses and jackets from the retailer and although they’re very trendy, they have a classic appeal to them so that I can wear the items for several seasons. Another is Zara, which is fairly new to the Chicago area, but I’ve shopped at their other locations in the country. They were my go-to for color blocking because they carried the most vibrant colors, and you’ll find things there that you won’t see anywhere else. Lastly, I’m a fan of asos.com. Although I can’t try the clothes on, I’ve never been disappointed in the quality of their products and they look exactly the way that the did online. Sometimes buying online is tricky but they do a really good job.

What trends do you love that mostly describe and inspire your style? I’d say all of the trends that I love are with tops, sweaters and jackets – I love anything and everything with an accentuated collar. Because my hair is short, funky tops look great on me, and I also like to add infinity scarves to everything now that Fall is here. I also like structured shoulders, blouson sleeves and great big belts. Sometimes a great shirt or a nice jacket is all you need, with a nice pair of jeans and amazing shoes.

What are 3 things in your closet that you can NOT live without?  First and foremost, I can’t live without my shoes! Sam Edelman, Louboutin, you name it, I live for a great pair of shoes. To me shoes are like the icing on the cake when I get dressed up, and if I will wait to wear certain things if I don’t have the perfect shoe. Unfortunately, I can’t pick just one shoe in my closet as my favorite.  Secondly I love dresses, so I wouldn’t be able to part with those. Lastly, I love skinny jeans. Because I’m curvy and my legs are long, skinny jeans are really comfortable and allow me to show off my shoes. LOL

Who do you look up to in the fashion industry? And who are your top 3
most fashionable celebs?
I love some of the fashion greats – Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and Frida Giannini as far as designers are concerned. I love Rachel Zoe’s style and her love of the industry, she lives (and dies, lol) for great fashion. For shoes of course, the amazing Christian Louboutin and Giuseppe Zanotti are ridiculously talented. Three of my favorite fashionable celebs are Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, and LaLa Anthony. And I have 3 reality favorites: The Kardashians! Each lady has a style of her own, loves color and has a CRAZY shoe closet! lol

What tips can you give our Confessions Of A Glam-Aholic readers on how
to achieve stylish looks? The main tip that I can give Glam-Aholic Gals is to celebrate your own style – combine trendy items with some of your favorites that you already have, that way you’re not steering too far away from what you like. Everything doesn’t work for everyone, so wear clothes that allow you to be comfortable and confident. If you feel good in your clothes then you’ll exude confidence and overall you will look better. Also, don’t go overboard with a trend, because certain trends don’t last long. You don’t want to end up with a closet full of things that you can’t keep!

Mia Ray: What does FASHION mean to you? To me, fashion means expression. Showing the world who you are without saying a word.

Mia Ray: What are some of your favorite trends that are happening right now? Right now, my favorite trends are colorblocking (although this isn’t a trend for me; I’ve been wearing non matching clothes forever LOL) and the 70′s trend. I’m all about jumpsuits, big hair and platforms.

Mia Ray: What are your 3 favorite hot spots to hit and find haute pieces? Salvation Army, my closet and Asos.com

Mia Ray: What trends do you love that mostly describe and inspire your style? To be honest, I don’t really follow the trends all that much. Like I mentioned before, I’ve been colorblocking for years, so I don’t consider that a trend for me.

Mia Ray: What are 3 things in your closet that you can NOT live without? My cognac colored leather bag (thrifted), Givenchy heels and my accessories.

Mia Ray: Who do you look up to in the fashion industry? And who are your top 2 most fashionable celebs? Tracy Ellis Ross and Solange. I love their style, especially Tracy’s. Its effortless and sexy.

Mia Ray: What tips can you give our Confessions Of A Glam-Aholic readers on how to achieve stylish looks? Dress for yourself; being inspired is fine, but completely copying someone else’s look often fails and you end up looking like you’re trying way too hard. Look at magazines or old patterns at the thrift store to inspire yourself. We all know that blogs are also great way to see a stylish look that you may want to try.

Mia Ray: What are your 3 favorite hot spots to hit and find haute pieces? I’ve recently lost a lot of weight, so I’m still in the transitioning period and the thought of buying expensive clothing and not being able to wear them as I continue to drop the pounds bother me. So, I hit up places like H & M and Forever 21, they always have nice pieces for great prices! I’m a huge accessories girl so I stop and get those pieces from The Foyer, Vintage Underground here in Chicago and lastly, Chicago Fashionhouse!
