Mix’n & MAC’n: RiRi Woo Vs. Ruby Woo

I would like to really applaud MAC Cosmetics. The anticipation and hype for RiRiWoo was impeccable! They did a phenomenal job of convincing us that “RiRiWoo” was a different shade that we didn’t already have in our collection. Unfortunately, they are (to me), the same EXACT color. After waiting almost 2 hours to finally check out through the MAC website, I was extremely excited to get my hands on this seemingly amazing color! When it arrived I instantly did a hand swatch and applied RiriWoo. On my hand swatch RiriWoo seemed “pinker” and RubyWoo more orange.

You can imagine me disappointment when I put both colors on and took a photo. I tried different lighting, flash then no flash, indoor then outdoor. Finally, I came to the conclusion: these lippies look the EXACT same on my lips. MAC got me gooood!

So ladies if you missed the release. Don’t be sad, in my opinion…you aren’t missing a thing!

Confess your glam and let us know what are your thoughts on RiRi Woo vs. Ruby Woo!

Glam-Aholic Retail Therapy: Forever 21+ Abstract Print Top

Since becoming prego, I rarely get to travel to the mall as much as I would like too. Now, I spend most of my time shopping online but sometimes you get the urge to physically touch the clothes and feel the fabric, you know. So, over the weekend I decided to pay a visit to Forever 21 to do a little retail therapy.  As I made my way through the store towards the plus size section I spotted a crystallized printed top that caught my attention.  The printed top reminded me so much of Givenchy, that I just knew I would probably see this similar style top on one of my fav celebs.  And boy was I right, the very next day Kim Kardashian hit the streets of Miami wearing a Givenchy Birds of Paradise tee, that was very similar to Forever 21’s crystallized top. Later I realized that Rihanna had worn the same Givenchy tee back in August, what are the odds of two of my fashion icon’s rocking the same style of tee I picked up!

This top is available online and in store, giving you more chances to catch one of the hottest trends of the season!

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Head-To-Toe Prints

Paisley, florals and graphics patterns have the runways going CRAZY for head-to-toe prints! This trend isn’t like the mixed prints we talked about previously; this time around it’s all about rockin’ a single print on the top and bottom. The once fashion faux pas is now the new “do”.  You know fashion rules “out with the old, in with the new”.  No need to worry, unlike mixing prints the key to pulling this look off is all about keeping everything else minimal. All you need to set this trend off is a chic powerful statement print and you’re ready to go!

I know we all went buzzing when we spotted Beyonce’ court side rocking a head-to-toe geometric print. I appreciated this look so much because she didn’t tack on any unnecessary accessories, she let her print stand on its own because it was the focal point. That’s always important when styling, to remember what you want the focal point of your look to be. Rockin’ a coordinating print look with a sleek hairstyle like Rihanna, will add some much needed flare to your  look.

If you’re not really into the print matching get-ups, then you can certainly wear the pieces separate and still be stylish but, if ever worn together you’ll have one dynamic duo! You can always sport a matching handbag or shoe together for quick  tip to give your casual ensemble a boost. Since, I’m a plus size girl I always keep in mind my silhouette when purchasing head-to-toe looks. If you are top heavy, go with a looser top and vice versa if you’re bottom heavy. Prints can easily make your silhouette seem wider when wearing a coordinate fit.

Although the high-end designers have an inventory full of head-to-toe prints, this trend can be easily found at your local department store at an affordable price!

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Camouflage

Ready to be all you can be?! You guessed it ladies; get ready to solider up this Fall and Winter. There’s nothing new about camouflage popping up in our fashion wardrobes throughout the years but, this time the military print has taken on a new life.  From jackets, pants, dresses and shoes, the classic army style is back to commanding the runways and dominating street style.  Household designers can’t get enough of the camo, showcasing peek-a-boo peeks of the print in their latest collections. The statement print is proving it can be worn more ways than just going to war.

Jane Punk Camo Vest $60 (theayvstore.com)

The army influenced look can transcend your style from edgy, classic and feminine…to street, within a matter of seconds.  Zipping on a classic camouflage jacket from your local army supply store can take your casual look to tomboy chic with a snap of a few buttons.

If you’re looking to shake up your look a bit, than try pairing camo pants with baseball tee, fur vest and slipping on lace up booties. Rocking this look could definitely shake up your next date night look!  If that’s not your style, try a flirty dress with a fatigue blazer for a work appropriate look that could carry over to drinks at happy hour. Limit yourself to rocking one camouflage piece at a time. You don’t want to look like you went AWOL lol

Our favorite celebs have made camouflage look so effortless by just tossing on a piece here and there. But, Teyana Taylor stood out the crowd, choosing to pair her camo with a leather crop top for the ultimate solider look. The army inspired look is such an easy style to rock on a day to day basis. I’m sure it won’t be hard to find this print at your local department store, or you always luck up on some chic vintage pieces from your local thrift store!

Mia Ray picked up her camo pants from the local Army Surplus store, you should be able to Google and locate one in your area! But before you dash to the store, make sure you look in the back of your closet for some throwback pieces you might’ve had stashed from a few years back.

The Ray Report: Rihanna Covers Vogue

The unstoppable Rihanna covers the November issue of Vogue Magazine in a fiery Valentino gown and fierce pixie cut. The care free diva opens up about everything from music to Chris Brown, all while rocking some haute couture designs by the likes of Michael Kors to Dior.

On her care-free nature:
“I don’t like to live a calculated life. I don’t do anything for the reaction.”

On her relationship status:
“I have not been on a date in forever. Like two years. Haven’t gone to the movies, to dinner. Zero.”

On her dating desire:
“I would love to go on a date. You don’t think that? I’m a woman. A young woman, vibrant, and I love to have fun. And I have too many v***nas around me at this point. Seriously, all I want is a guy to take me out and make me laugh for a good hour and take my a** back home. He doesn’t even have to come up. All I want is a conversation for an hour.”

On if she thinks she’s going to be talking about Chris Brown for the rest of her life:
“To the world, I feel like there’s no closure. There’s some obsession that’s continued even throughout when we weren’t friends or couldn’t be friends at all. Hated each other. The world hasn’t let go. They haven’t seen any progress in our friendship, because they don’t see anything, really, besides the song.”

On the “Birthday Cake” remix being her idea:
“I didn’t think it could be anything detrimental to my career. I was on a tour bus ride between two cities, listening to my album, thinking, Oooh, maybe I should make this into a duet. And I started coming up with a bunch of people, and his name crossed my mind. I thought, We haven’t made a song in so long together . . . it could be a little shocking.”

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Oxblood

It’s time to get ready for Fashion Night Out! It’s fashion’s most iconic extravaganza to kick off New York City’s Fashion Week. The premier event happens on September 6, 2012! And, what better stylish way to get us ready for FNO than previewing the hot trends for Fall. So, let’s start the season off right with it’s top notch color, Oxblood!

The rich regal Oxblood a.k.a Burgundy, has dominated the runways and saturated Fall fashion issues, proclaiming it as the must have color of the season.  And, the takeover doesn’t stop there, the luxe hue shows up on every fashion piece imaginable. The dramatic, edgy yet sophisticated color comes in a variety of reds making it universally flattering color. The bleeding oxblood is interchangeable with your black pieces and blends well with other colored pieces in your wardrobe also. No wonder why it’s being called “The New Black”, the dark shade appeals to the masses!

Our favorite “it” girls have been seen adding an unexpected element of drama to their looks, layering the rich regal color from head to toe for a monochromatic look. (Which is also big trend for Fall!) Switch out your LBD for a burgundy option for an upgrade. You can also pair oxblood with brights, like orange, teal and blue as a great way to transition your Summer wardrobe into Fall. Mixing in a few elements like leather, velvet and wool with the dark shade will offset with your neutrals. Kristin Cavallari’s oxblood shawl is the perfect piece to throw on for those causal days when you’re on the go. If you have to ease yourself into the richness of this shade, you can add this trend in smaller doses with accessories like handbags, belts, shoes and even your hair!

Nothing’s sweeter than rich burgundy locks and a deep dark lip as the ultimate statement to get you through Fall!

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Going Backless

Going backless is newest way to show off some skin! Don’t get us wrong we’re a sucker for a plunge neckline but for the moment we’re captivated by the bare back. Fashion “It” Girls couldn’t agree with us more, ripping up the red carpet and sidewalks rocking a bare back. Rihanna the queen of going backless exudes self-confidence and sex appeal every time she makes an appearance in an open back gown.  Just a peek at your back is enough to drive a man wild! If that’s not enough attention for you pairing a cascading necklace down your back will surely do the trick.

Sporting a backless piece allows you to look seductive and daring without revealing too much skin. Subtle yet mysterious, no wonder why backless pieces are flying off the racks! Busty girls no need to pout you can rock this trend too with the support of a bra! In the past donning a backless piece with a bra was such a big taboo. But, with the latest breakthrough backless bra by Maidenform you no longer have to stress about bra straps when it’s time to go bare.

Don’t turn your back on us just yet… you need to find something to wear to that soirée? Why not get dressed in this super chic moment of the look piece!? Even if it’s just a causal event, you can slip on a backless top with dark denim jeans and booties!

Confess Your Glam, are you a fan of showing off your back??

The Ray Report: Rihanna Covers Harper’s Bazaar

Hair: Ursula Stephen for Motions
Make-up: Mylah Morales for Nars

Glam-Aholic Trend Alert: Cap-Toe Shoes

Get prepared to cap-off your Summer with a cap-toe shoe! Yes Glam-Aholics, the two–toned footwear that emerged from the classic Coco Chanel days has made a comeback (like everything else lol). In case you didn’t know, a cap-toe shoe is a different colored/textured material over the toe of the shoe. It’s the perfect chic upgrade for a timeless shoe.  Already a fashion “it girl” favorite, the two-toned trend has been spotted on the red carpet, photo shoots and even courtside.

What I dig most about this trend is that it comes in a variety of styles to choose from and in a variation of shoe silhouettes. No matter what shoe style you’re into, there’s a cap-toe to fit your ensemble.  And if you’re thinking like I’m thinking, you’re worried about if this shoe can be transitioned into the Fall season. And, my answer is yes! The cap-toe’s style is so subtle, I’m 100% sure it’ll carry into Fall. You won’t even have to break the bank for this look either, available at high-in boutiques to our favorite budget shops. It’s definitely one trend that works for every age and budget!

The footwear adds a Hollywood flare to any look your pair them with. Since I live, eat and breath shoes…I would make my cap-toe the star of my outfit.  No matter what the occasion, I would pair them with my wardrobe essentials. Kim Kardashian and her stylist Monica Rose are firm believers of this method. Kim is without a doubt addicted to her cap-toe pumps and no matter what look she’s rockin’ or where she’s going, her shoes transition from day to night.

Okay, I’m convinced! This might be the most sought out trend of the season.  I can’t help but to obsessed over these shoes as I write this post. I’m so ready to make my way to the nearest shoe department to purchase my very own pair LOL! This is one hot style that my soles are itching to get into!

Glam-Aholic Remix: Rihanna’s Double Split Maxi

Here’s my inspiration! I don’t know when, why and how this performance took place, but I knew I had to have a double split maxi skirt like this. I mean I had to have it lol! I’m not as daring as Rihanna though, I didn’t want to be too extreme and bare it all, so I toned it down a bit. I hit up a local designer to see if she could make my dream come true, and this is what we came up with…

We made it happen perfectly! Getting compliments from both men and women, I knew my mission was accomplished lol! Pairing it with an “Army” crop top from Forever 21 ($18.90), I wanted to tone the sexiness of my skirt down a notch by rocking it with a graphic tee. I’m not really a “sexy” person, so showing too much skin at one time just isn’t my style. My look has to balance out.

As we reported before, maxi dresses and skirts with high splits are showing up everywhere and on everyone. I told you before that you need to grab one! This will definitely not be the last time that I rock one.

Check out the “Mia Maxi” over at CD. Blanc Designs!
