Janet Jackson’s baggy jeans, fitted navy top, oversized baseball jersey, John Lennon shades, box braids were all trending in ’93. I watched in amazement as she tossed her braids in a high pony, slid on a white headband and cream crochet crop top. I was taken aback at how relaxed the fashion & beauty were back in the day. No heavy make-up, 5 inch pumps and extreme high fashion. Box braids, red lipstick and big silver hoops were all you needed to look killer…
As the camera faded into the next scene, I spotted that Joe Torry had on the Air Jordan VII “Bordeaux”. The colorful sneakers have never gone unnoticed to me but since I was watching with my fashion eye, I was able to pick right up on the J’s. Since making their debut in ’91, the “Bordeaux” kicks have been re-released several times and are a must have for all Jordan collectors…
Tupac’s snap backs (always turned backwards) were also iconic, from the black and white Chicago White Sox’s hat, to the navy blue postal hat. The caps were all the hype in the 90’s and recently have made their way back and became the craze for men everywhere…
