I live for great hair! It is an absolute treat for me to try out new hairstyles. So, you can imagine how eager I was to try something new after wearing the same style for 9 months while I was pregnant. I can always count on Nicki Minaj for hairspiration, her new platinum locks and rich dark roots had me tuned in to American Idol every Wednesday and Thursday just to catch a glimpse! Her hair gave me life but, I couldn’t figure out how they got her roots so dark and her hair that light? What was the process? Did they lighten the dark hair to platinum or vice versa? I needed answers! So instead of going stir crazy trying to figure this process out I left it in the hands of my stylist Malika.
I have no idea the exactly process Nicki Minaj’s stylist takes to achieve her look but, I’m sure it’s pretty similar to this one. First, my stylist Malika dyed the roots of the Platinum European hair dark so that it would blend with my natural hair color. The hair extensions we used were the Blonde Bomb provided from Oh Kouture! Although in the picture the extensions have a slight wave to them they are naturally straight. Only the front part of my hair was dyed because my hair is naturally jet black, so it was a double process to lift it. When going blonde I know a lot of people choose to lighten their eyebrows as well. I’ve been blonde twice and I’ve never had to touch-up my brows. I like how it adds definition to my face!
Recently, I’ve had my natural hair lifted a bit more to match the platinum blonde extensions and I must say I am truly happy with the results! This is my first time trying European hair and I must say it is so easy to manage. Like I said before it is naturally straight hair but it does have a slight wave to it when it’s wet. And, if I want a big curly style, I just use my flexi rods. I am not a stylist, I’d suggest having a consultation with your stylist to figure out which steps to take to rock this style.
I will admit I didn’t know how much I was going to like this style on me but, I am head over heels in love! I’ll be rocking dark roots all summer long!

This look is great on you! I’ve wanting to try weave for the longest but I just haven’t built up the nerves. Perhaps you can do a post on Weave 101 series, i.e. different types and how to choose, ways of installing, how to care for the weave and your real hair. I’m natural and know nothing about weave. I would appreciate it so much!
