Mia Ray’s Maternity Style Guide

Maternity fashion can sometimes be a headache. With the extra pounds, poking and pain… your wardrobe may be the last thing on your mind! During my pregnancy, I found that when I looked better…I felt better. Kinda like a mind over matter type of thing LOL I’ve had several of my Glam-Aholics ask how I managed to remain stylish during those long 9 months, and I’ll have to say that it’s not as hard as some people like to make it. I somewhat enjoyed the challenge of seeing how I could style my huge belly and 24 pound weight gain!

  • Maxi Dress: I found that Maxi dresses offered a lot of comfort during my pregnancy, which is the MOST important aspect of getting dressed during this time. Being that the majority of my dresses were loose, it made these looks budget-friendly because I didn’t have to spend a dime. I could shop in my closet instead of shopping at the mall!

  • Leggings: Leggings became my best friend!  I found my love for black leggings; that way it would always be very easy for me to throw on any top and go. Finding the PERFECT pair for me was definitely trial & error. Either the waistband would too tight around my stomach or they would shrink when I washed them. My favorite pair of leggings that held on for the entire ride, came from Target ($8) and H&M ($9)…in which I bought about 6 pair in each brand. (If I had to pick a favorite from the two, it would definitely be the H&M pair…the fit/length was amazing!)

  • DIY Shorts: I’m a firm believer in “Do It Yourself”, especially when it comes to transforming a look from nothing to something! While pregnant, I was dying for a pair of distressed denim shorts. I felt defeated for about 5 minutes, until it popped in my head to go buy a pair of maternity jean shorts and distress them myself! (actually I sent them to www.MarvNeal.com and had them professionally done)…

I purchased these Liz Lange Maternity Denim shorts from Target for $25. They became one of my favorite pieces to rock because even while being pregnant, they managed to keep me stylish & trendy!

I also purchased an oversized pair of jeans form Forever 21 for $12.50 and cut them into shorts. I paired them with my suspender tights, wedge sneakers and tied a button up around my waist…just as I would if I weren’t pregnant. For the most part, every day as I got dressed I would try to ignore my big belly as much as possible LOL! It really worked in my favor…

  • ASOS: I wish I could tell the world how much I LOVE ASOS! I didn’t have to shop much and they helped me save TONS of money because their fit and quality is so GREAT! Due to their amazing stretch, I was able to wear my size 6 dresses up until my last month of my pregnancy. These looks were the true definition of a “Glam-Aholic Remix”…

ASOS.com also has a very fashionable Maternity line for ladies who may feel more comfortable purchasing those pieces. I snagged a few items from that department also (I found them to be too big, but I still made it work!)…

In conclusion, I wore what worked best for me! I still shopped at my favorite stores, just sometimes going up a size or two. I did not subject myself to jogging suits and moo-moo’s. Dead are those days for pregnant women…especially for me LOL! Like I said before, when I looked better…I felt better.

* Comfort is KEY.

* Remain true to your style, even with a protruding belly.

* Continue to shop at your favorite stores, even though you may have to go up a few sizes.

* Challenge your sense of style and enjoy every moment…it’ll be over before you know it 🙂
