Confess Your Glam: Sunni And The City

The talented Bosnian beau Sunni, a radio host at Washington D.C’s Powerhouse; WPGC 95.5…is making moves! Sunni who I remember as the sweet, soft spoken Sunshyne from WJLB FM 98, who answered those make up to break up midnight calls from the “Apology Line”. Since then Sunni has graced the airways on Power 96 in Miami and Channel 95.5 in Detroit. But most importantly, what is so inspirational about Sunni, is her story..

“As a Bosnian refugee who relocated to the United States in 1997, Sunni taught herself to speak English in less than six months. She also became the first woman from her native country of Bosnia to have her own show on an urban radio station, making her also one of the youngest radio personalities in Detroit at the age of 21.”-Sunniandthecity.com

Confessions Of A Glam-Aholic actually got a chance to interview the mid-day fashionista…

Arjaunjubri: When did you know that radio would be your career path? I took an internship right after high school and that’s when I discovered just how much I loved it. I never even dreamed of being a radio host, never thought I could do it but 10 years later.. here I am.

Arjaunjubri: What’s your current fashion obsession? I am completely obsessed with my “Michelle Obama” dresses (that’s my Calvin Klein dresses). They’re sexy, tailored to my body, but still very professional.

Arjaunjubri: I saw that you have worked with the one and only Necole from”Necolebitchie.com”, how was that experience? I learned a lot from Necole. She works very hard and she truly knows what she’s doing and where she wants to go with her brand. She’s truly the queen of branding.

Arjaunjubri: How would you describe your style? I love wearing things that make me feel beautiful and most importantly comfortable! I don’t like showing too much, that makes me uncomfortable. I also love accessorizing simple pieces with some funky jewelry… great way to spice up your wardrobe.

Arjaunjubri: What advice would you give someone who wants to break into the entertainment industry? Study the craft, study the successful people that are in that field, study study study. It’s all about learning the Ins and the Outs of this crazy business. I started really early at the age of 18 and now, 10 years in, I’m still learning.

Arjaunjubri: You always looks so stylish, where are your favorite places to shop? I shop everywhere!! I am a discount queen! If it has a red sticker, I’ll buy it. Not my size? I’ll still buy it, and make it fit! I hit all the sales racks at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, etc… There is only a handful of things that I don’t mind paying a full price for and that’s a nice handbag, fabulous coat, and shoes. Everything else is just a filler in my wardrobe, why spend too much?!

Arjaunjubri: Because your a public figure, is there a lot of pressure to maintain your image? Not really because I don’t view myself in that way. I just think of myself as a regular girl who has a fabulous job. But I still understand that I can’t just do everything and anything because others do view me as a public figure. Trying to be my true self while still maintaining my “public” persona is kind of hard but it’s the path I chose.

Arjaunjubri: What’s one item in your closet you can’t live with out? I love my Michael Kors boots that I got on sale, I’m completely obsessed with them! They’re peep toe and I wear them all year round!

Arjaunjubri: What’s next for Sunni in the City? I’m still getting adjusted to DC lifestyle. I am planning to do more charity work rather than just parties. I think I came onto the scene during the spring/summer and I’ve gotten caught up in being a socialite. I need to get back to the things that truly matter to me and that’s helping people. I’m also getting ready to re-launch my website SunniAndTheCity.com. My little brother and I had a great idea to start a charity organization, we’re still working on the details… A lot is going on and I’m just excited that everyone here in the DMV has embraced me with open arms. I truly love it here and I look forward to being here for a very long time.
