Same Girl…Natural Hair: Tisha

She’s one of my favorite Glam-Aholics! You’ve all met Tisha before when she showed us the contents of her Glam Tote, well now she’s gonna share with us her journey to #TeamNatural. Like most of you, I am very intrigued to hear the story behind anyone’s decision to leave the “creamy crack” alone and see the results of healthier hair!

In the words of Tisha…

I chose to BC in February 2010, after I tried to attempt a natural hair style that I saw on a website and my hair would no longer curl.  I had permanently damaged my curl pattern.  I remembered a time when all I had to do was wet my hair and the water produced a beautiful curl pattern in my hair.  I consulted my hair stylist on how to make my curls return and she gave me two options, either let my hair grow out without using any heat to straighten my hair or cut it all off and start over, so I DID!  My husband cut all my hair off for me.  He was so supportive in helping me go natural.

The benefit of being natural is natural hair is SO DIVERSE!  I am the queen of switching my hair style from straight back to kinky and  curly. Wearing natural hair takes a lot of confidence.  You have to be confident in who you are and not care about someones opinion of your hair.  I got a lot of flack from everyone, including my coworkers and mother. She hated my hair worn in it’s natural state.  Confidence it definitely the key when going natural.
When I big chopped I kept my hair moisturized and let my natural curl pattern take over. I wore it curly until my hair grew and then I started twisting it. My favorite hair styles are braid outs.  I’m not good at doing protective styles, plus I like big hair! I am a bonafide product JUNKIE!  I use everything!  Some of my favorites are Karens Body Beautiful,  Shea Moistures, and Original Moxie.
Going natural was the best decision I ever made.  My hair has never been this healthy in my adult life.  For those people who want to go natural but don’t want to cut off all of your relaxed, or heat damaged hair try transitioning. Also, Youtube is a girls best friend when going natural! You can learn a lot from the natural hair gurus on Youtube about styling, moisturizing, growth, and much more.  Some of my favorites on Youtube are CharyJay (160days2Lose2), MsVaughnTV, MeechyMonroe, Natural Chica, MahoganyKnots, and Taren916.
